To minimize the potential bruising risk, it is best the discontinue aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil one week before the treatment.

For minor aches and pains, Tylenol is a good alternative. If you take aspirin or a blood thinner for heart related conditions, stopping these medications must be approved by your physician.

Many patients elect to take Arnica or Bromelain three days prior and continue for three days after treatment. Both of these are homeopathic medications that limit the occurrence and duration of bruising. Should you have interest, they can be purchased at most health food stores.

Plan in advance by scheduling at least two weeks prior to a special event (we recommend four weeks if you’re getting married). This will give time for potential bruising to fade and it will give the products time to look their best.

It is best to limit physical activity immediately following your treatment. If you plan to work out on the day of your appointment, please complete this prior to your injections.

The treatment area will be cleansed prior to treatment. If it’s not inconvenient to arrive without make-up, please do so.

If you think of any questions ahead of your appointment, don’t hesitate to call our text us at 314-822-1060.

Decreased Sensation: Local topical numbing medication will be used to maximize your comfort during the procedure. This can result in areas of decreased sensation and movement for 1-2 hours post treatment.

Redness and Swelling: Immediately after treatment, the most common side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days. Cold compress may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling. Cooling the area down for 15 minutes at a time, several times the first day is beneficial.

Bruising: Most people have minimal to no bruising and can resume normal activity immediately. Occasionally, someone gets unlucky and experiences more bruising. Although disappointing, it is important to understand it will not affect the result of the filler. It just takes time for the bruise to resolve. Concealer can be used to cover the bruise. Arnica supplements are proven to improve bruising and can be purchased at most health food stores.

Firmness, Lumps, Bumps: While this sounds scary, it is not reason to be alarmed! It is normal to feel degrees of “firmness” in the treated areas for the first few days. The firmness will soften and “settle” on its own, leaving you with a soft, natural looking result. Do not manipulate or repeatedly touch these areas today. Beginning tomorrow, you may “massage” these sites by briefly holding constant pressure with the fingertips a few times daily.

Headache or Discomfort: You may take Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen products for 24 hours as they may increase your potential to bruise.

Sun Exposure: Until redness, swelling, and bruising have resolved, avoid exposure of treated area to intense heat and UV exposure. Apply SPF 30+ to the face for incidental exposure.

Activity: Avoid strenuous activity and consumption of alcohol for 6 hours post treatment.

Skincare: Good anti-aging regimens should be part of your daily routine. You may resume all of your products beginning tomorrow. For the remainder of today, keep it simple with sunscreen and cleanser.

Results: It is extremely important to have realistic expectations. The great majority of patients are very happy with filler as a method to replace lost volume seen with age related changes. However, fillers are not used to “get rid of” all your wrinkles. The best approach is often with gradual improvements over several treatments. It is best to repeat treatment before you see a complete resolution of your filler’s initial effect.
